Zig-Zag Design is an international design practice based in Suzhou, Shanghai and Rotterdam, founded by Rongting Xiao. Since its establishment, Zig-Zag has worked on a wide range of projects across architecture, interior, product and spatial design. With a cross-cultural team of designers and collaborators, we aim to create meaningful and sustainable spaces that connect people, culture and environment.
Zig-Zag Design employs a bold and experimental approach combined with sensitivity to context and craft. Rather than following a fixed style, we focus on problem-solving strategies to develop functional, innovative, balanced and striking design solutions. We value the process of thinking along with our clients to refine or even redefine the design brief.
Our name ‘Zig-Zag’ reflects our design methodology and attitude: a pursuit of the essence of geometric structure, an engagement with multi-layered spatial conditions, and a commitment to a critical design consciousness. We approach each project with contextual awareness and overlay different perspectives—cultural, social, material, environmental—to create designs that respond to both present needs and future generations.
Beyond practice, Zig-Zag Design actively contributes to academic and public discourse through socially engaged projects, design workshops and community initiatives, bridging practice, education and cultural exchange.
